Redefining Ministry

"When one is called a heretic it is often because they are close to the Truth."

It would mean a lot if you read this or at least reblogged it!

I’m trying to finance a trip to Israel that takes place in July.

Anyone that knows me is aware of the severe ‘homesickness’ I’ve felt since my trip there in January. Now I’ve been accepted into a program that will actually be a classroom and on-site experience about the history and culture of Israel. I will meet with important figures in the work towards reconciliation and peace in war-torn and religiously struggling areas of the world.

I have no agenda other than that of learning and helping. I’m not going in as an American or even a Christian. I’m going in as a sister who sees suffering and wants to experience it first hand. I want to know what the environment is really like and provide whatever help I can. I go in with questions, not imperialistic answers.

If you can donate anything (even $1) it would mean so much! I literally will have to turn them down if I can’t raise the money to go on the trip. Financial aid, student loans and scholarships are not available for classes that only take place in July.

If you can’t (or can) share with me financially, any support or reblogging will be really helpful! I’m open to any and every question/comment/insight! My ask is open to anyone. All money will go directly towards tuition and student fees from the Rothberg International School.

Attention humans:

I am officially one Ephesians exegesis paper between me and my freedom.

Let’s just ignore the fact that I’m starting research now and it’s due today.

Psalm 146 reminds us that faithful waiting isn’t simply passive. Instead, we’re called to wait actively, courageously: to put our hope in the Lord, and to follow God into those places where God would use us to bring justice for the oppressed, food for the hungry, care for the most vulnerable. Our efforts will never save the world on their own, but that’s not our job. Our call is to bring all that we have to the work of being active, living witnesses to our hope through Jesus Christ.

I literally just did a Facebook status about the same basic idea.

New presidential candidate on the scene supports marriage equality

gaywrites:

Gary Johnson, the former New Mexico governor who’s now in the race for president, announced this week that he supports marriage equality. He was known as one of the state’s most fiscally conservative governors and is now a Libertarian candidate in the presidential race.

In a town hall sponsored by GOProud, he said he could not justify laws like DOMA which seek to “define” marriage, and that these laws very blatantly discriminate against gay couples (well, yeah). From the Advocate:

“When it comes to the rights of individuals and couples under the law, government’s promise should be to insure equal access to those rights to all Americans, gay or straight. For a very long time, society has viewed gay marriage as a moral and, yes, religious issue. Today, I believe we have arrived at a point in history where more and more Americans are viewing it as a question of liberty and freedom. That evolution is important, and the time has come for us to align our marriage laws with the notion that every individual should be treated equally.”

Hmm. All right. We’ll keep an eye on this guy and see what happens.
